Bongaon Dishari Swarojgar Goshthi has always been working for ensuring the rights of the poverty-stricken, underprivileged people who are sufferers of varied forms of socio-cultural and economic discrimination. These people are the most voiceless in our society and yet they are the ones who have the last in reaping the benefits of various social programmes and grants. They live in most dire circumstances and are uninformed of any opportunities and rights. Bongaon Dishari has been primarily working in the area of sanitation so as to provide the people access to basic health and hygiene standards. We have also been working for ensuring several other basic capabilities such as education, health and employment opportunities in an effort to provide them with the basic freedoms that these capabilities guarantee. We had started our journey with a distant dream of trying to improve the lives of the innocent deprived people of Bongaon. Seven years later, the struggle continues but the constraints encountered have only contributed in strengthening our resolve further our efforts of establishing a just society.

Acceptance is a form of cultural silence. This acceptance might be with regard to positive or negative circumstances. However, the greater population of Bongaon in the North 24 Pargana district of the state has been accepting their poverty, poor health, appalling sanitation and absence of various other basic facilities for generations in silence. Awareness generation and capability development could play a huge role in minimizing this overhauling systemic deficits and this is where Bongaon Dishari Swarojgar Goshthi has been intervening and working since 2009 in our own way in trying to create a difference. We attempt to provide an enabling environment for the people where they will be aware of their rights and hence are able to voice those demands. It has been a Short journey but the learning has been immense and the continual experiences encountered enrich us further. Bongabn Dishari Swarojgar Goshthi will always be making efforts for diminishing the losses of the people and strive to give them with equitable opportunities in life. We sincerely hope to continue this journey of bringing a change in the lives of the people of Bongaon through our limited endeavors.

In any case, across nations and boundaries rights of people living in the border areas gets violated on a regular basis. Poverty, lack of employment and other basic necessities force people to get involved in various smuggling rackets, operational across the borders. And amidst all these, women are the worst sufferers.
